The Tour Championship can get confusing so I will just get right to it. The top 70 started in Memphis two weeks ago. They have been playing to make the top 30 and gain a ticket to Atlanta. When you get to East Lake Golf Club, the points go away, and to avoid fan confusion, the PGA…
Walking the grounds at Olympia Fields Country Club, I’m happy to report the player experience should be slightly different than the last time the BMW Championship was played on the North Course. The 2020 tournament lacked two things, fans due to covid and birdies. Only five players finished the tournament under par and Jon Rahm needed a…
The FedEx St. Jude Championship leads off the FedEx Cup (FEC) playoffs for the second year in row. No stranger to high level golf, TPC Southwind is prepared to cut an elite field nearly in half. Memphis has hosted the PGA TOUR for quite some time. As a reward to their passionate crowds and FedEx’s money what…
The more things change, the more things stay the same. Once again, the Wyndham Championship will close out the PGA TOUR season. Although there has been a drastic change to the points system, the season long cut line looms large over Greensboro, North Carolina. The irony of this week amazes me every year. Sedgefield Country Club’s Donald…
Another week, another major is on our schedule. The Amundi Evian Championship takes place adjacent to beautiful Lake Léman on the border between France and Switzerland. The famous body of water is approximately 45 miles long and over 1,000 feet deep. Set against the base of the Swiss Alps, Évian-les-Bains, France sits at about 1,500 feet above…
The 151st Open Championship will be contested at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Set in the seaside town of Liverpool, the club is hosting its thirteenth Open. Royal Liverpool set in the small town of Hoylake, isn’t a part of the full rotation for the championship. Prior to hosting in 2006, Royal Liverpool had not seen the Open…
The Renaissance Club is hosting its fifth Genesis Scottish Open and this one should be just as great as the one from a year ago. The strength of field for the 156 players competing in Scotland’s Open Championship will be one of the highest ever for a regular DP World Tour event.
God bless Zach Johnson. The current Ryder Cup Captain does all he can to try and build up the John Deere Classic. The PGA TOUR’s annual trek to the Quad Cities region generally doesn’t draw a great collection of the world’s best players. The average strength of field as measured by the OWGR is 124 over…
There will always be a soft spot in my professional heart for Donald Ross golf courses. Nearly half of my club professional years were spent working at iconic Ross courses. I think what makes Ross unique are the green complexes. False fronts, some slope front to back, bunker placement and THE undulations all characterize his…
Less than 24 hours after the completion of the 123rd US Open, we are in Cromwell, Connecticut getting ready for another designated PGA TOUR stop. The Travelers Championship has been hosted by TPC River Highlands since 1984. The Pete Dye design is not only located on the opposite coast, but it will feel like another planet to…
